Just published a deep dive on the discontinued GM 25932020 power steering pump for the 2008-2010 H3 Alpha—covering the problem, exhaustive search results, rebuild kits, Camaro LS/2500HD swap ideas, related parts like the GM 12567922 bracket, and why the bottom-outlet design matters for easier adaptations. Check it out for preemptive tips and community insights to keep these V8 beasts steering strong: https://schwarttzy.com/alpha-p-steering-pump-25932020-discontinued-alternatives-fixes/
For those looking for the simplest upgrade path, the Universal Mount Bottom Outlet GM Type II Pump with Reservoir (HP1 Series) from Turn One Steering stands out as potentially the easiest solution—matching the OEM's downward high-pressure outlet orientation, with an integral reservoir and performance upgrades like reduced heat and HP draw; it could be a near-straight bolt-in with just clearance tweaks for pulley/belt alignment in the H3 bay. What fixes have you tried? 🚙⛰️

Interesting write-up. Thank you very much for the informative tech article!! That should help H3 Alpha owners. My advice to owners is DON'T Break your rig's reservoir. Treat it like gold.

Even the regular I-5 reservoirs are unobtanable based on my searches last spring. I heat the hose on mine with a hair dryer to make it good and pliable, and loosen it carefully ...and treat and handle it as though it were a priceless Egyptian artifact.

I have seen some I-5 replacement pumps with a hose attachment that would allow the installation of a remove reservoir something like you showed. Not sure where there would be room to mount it on the Pass side of the engine compartment (of an I-5).

I have a solution. Albeit more extreme than most are willing to take on. I am currently working on replacing my pump setup with an aftermarket bracket, pump, and reservoir. Goatbuilt alternator and ps pump bracket, psc cbr pump and psc remote reservoir. Obviously my needs are a little different since im solid axle swapped.
However the cbr pump will bolt onto the oem bracket with correct pulley spacing, as woll the type II tc pump. Those pumps however require remote reservoir and line work to get it to work.
A gm 2500 from.the gmt800 gen, those pumps come woth an attached reservoir and I believe will bolt right up to the ome bracket and possibly the lines.

Thanks for the suggestion on the GMT800 GM 2500 power steering pump with the attached reservoir—it does look like a solid option for many swaps, and yeah, it often bolts up to the OEM bracket pretty well. That said, the main issue with going that route (as mentioned in the post) is that you'd still need to replace or modify the high-pressure lines. The GMT800 pumps use different fittings and line routing compared to the H3 setup, so the stock H3 high-pressure lines typically won't connect directly without adapters, custom bends, or full replacement—which can add extra cost and hassle beyond just a pump swap.

I am very thankful to you, Schwarttzy.

I have 09 Alpha adv

Currently, I am having trouble finding alternatives.

I would appreciate it if you could post more detailed information regarding the installation process, especially about other components such as the "pulley, etc."

Warm regards.

Right now, my own H3's power steering pump is running perfectly fine with no issues, so I haven't had to dive into that specific swap/relocation myself yet. I recommend and believe the Universal Mount Bottom Outlet GM Type II Pump with Reservoir (HP1 Series) is a straight swap that bolts right up with no major modifications needed. As soon as I do any work on it (fix, repair, or preventive upgrade), I'll post a detailed write-up here with step-by-step photos, part numbers for the relocated pulley bracket/hardware, belt routing, and any tips on tensioner adjustments or alternative pulleys that work well.

I have an ‘09 Hummer H3 Alpha and I just found out yesterday that my power steering pump is shot so I’m finding this post very very helpful. I have a question for Schwarttzy, does this Turn One Steering HP1 pump mate up to the stock pressure lines or do replacement lines need to be part of this swap?,

Thanks, Eric

Thanks for the kind words—glad the post helped!

I don't have any first-hand experience with the Turn One HP1 pump swap on the '09 Alpha, but from everything I've gathered so far (forums, install threads, and part cross-checks), it should be nearly plug-and-play if it fits without rubbing on the frame rail. On the lines should mate up to the stock pressure and return lines—no replacements needed unless yours are cracked or leaking already. The fittings are the same GM spec. You'll need to swap your stock pulley over to the HP1. Turn One doesn't include one, but it's a standard press-on style—easy to transfer with a puller if you're careful.

If you run into any snags during install, feel free to shoot me pics, and I'll help troubleshoot.

Good luck—should breathe new life into that steering!

Excellent writeup thanks! I just noticed a pretty heavy leak in my steering system, but I haven't been able to take the time to zero in on exactly what/where the leak is coming from yet; hopefully it's not the reservoir. I am having no issues with the power steering, so I'm confident that the pump is still OK, but the leak scares me; hope it's the line and not the reservoir. I have noticed that it seems the OEM pressure line actually includes that "cooler", while the replacement line (Duralast 80880) that's available doesn't. Or does the line just sorta "clip in" to the cooler? Regardless, I'm not looking forward to changing it out; I need smaller hands!
