I recently came across an H3T offroad withOUT traction control. Is that even possible? Would that have to be a direct factory build to NOT have that installed? I would like your responses so I know what I'm getting myself into. Thanks.

Possibly an export (South African) version.

No Onstar. No DRL. No airbags. No auto-door locks. You know...all that b.s. that our lawsuit-obsessed US market feels we need.

I have never seen it but that doesn't mean there isn't one out there somewhere. I would think if you imported an overseas version the DOT conversion would require the addition of US required safety equipment and smog requirements.

SA models have auto door locks and DRL's too. Base models dont have TPMS though and no side curtain airbags!!! Offcourse Im talking on H3s, not H3Ts

I believe stability control is a DOT requirement and traction control is a natural byproduct of that. Perhaps it was disabled by an owner? Also, rental fleet models in the US are sometimes stripped down - no OnStar and minus a few other things, but since they have to do stability control I can't imagine disabling traction control

I'm talking under correction but no H3T was build at the SA -PE plant. As this is the H3 of choice for me . We have all the bells and whistles except TPMS,Onstar and XM radio

Agree with Senin, No AUS H3 (SAF Built) came with TPMS,Onstar and XM radio.

Not sure of the context the original poster heard the comment but if they were talking about different 4wd modes then some of these features are disabled when you enter 4HL, 4L, 4LL, etc. (Can't remember them offhand but this includes Traction Control, Stability Control, ABS)

Also, if I recall correctly, only the SAF Built H3 with AUTO Transmission have Stability Control (not the Manual Transmission models)

I can go back & research it if there is interest in this let me know.

Does the stabili control/traction control go completely off on the SA alpha? I've driven my truck on deep sand on 4 HI locked and even after I disable traction and stabilisys manually by holding the button for more than 5 seconds, it still interferes slightly in extreme situations (very deep sand or when im trying to do donuts!)

Y'all are wading into some deep waters with the Stability Control and Traction Control discussion. While I can't speak for SA builds the US versions and the associated discussions have been confusing and perhaps never fully answered. I believe different versions of owner's manuals and different years might have that button doing different things. This is my understanding of the two functions, which may or may not be correct:

Stability control - may be manually disabled by holding down the button, and is automatically disabled when putting into 4 low.

Traction control - is disabled by a couple of specific actions: application of the brakes and/or reaching a particular speed. I don't know the speed, but I'm guessing around 10-15 mph. The dash button does not control TC. I realize there are versions of the owner's manuals that say differently, and I suspect it is an error of the owner's manual.

You guys are getting way off topic. The H3T Alpha I saw did NOT even have the button you could push to enable/disable the traction control. If the H3T has roof lights, there's a button just below the AC controls that allow you to turn the lights on/off. Directly to the left of that SHOULD be the traction control button. However, this H3T Alpha (built here in the U.S.) doesn't have that button. Why would that be?

Was the H3T Alpha you saw an Adventure package? If not, then the Stability Control button is in the 4x4 control panel on the far right side, where the locker buttons are in an Adventure model.

And we weren't necessarily off topic - part of my post was to help clarify the button: it's Stability Control, not Traction Control.

alrock- you're right, you did make some good, clarifying points. This H3T is an Alpha w/ the Offroad/Adventure Package. This is what it looks like.

Is the light switch where the SC button would be? If so, perhaps the owner took out the switch and put in the light one instead

This one has the roof lights you can turn off and on. When an H3T has the Offroad/Adventure Package with the roof lights, the switch for the TC/SC is on the left and the switch for the lights is on the right. This is the normal setup on every other one I've seen with this setup. I don't know if the prior owner removed the button or the whole thing. Or, it could be that this one was built without it? Is that even possible?

chook the adventure came with manual transmission
This an Alpha which only came with the auto. Judging from the pics my guess would be the switch got broken or removed, it's an open hole with no blank off plate didn't come from the factory like that.

Yep Skippy, but like mine you can upspec the Adventure with all the LUX options (Auto, Sunroof, etc.) but you couldn't tick the option for the Adventure Pack on the LUX if that makes sense.

I.e. 3.7l Adventure come Std with Manual & no Stability Control (Alpha Adventure model comes Std with Auto)
