Okay, we have a trail! Pyeatt might be ideal for ONE vehicle (Dwaine) so we'll go with something better suited to the Hummers - Sycamore Creek :link: and The Rolls. This link is the first beach inlet :link:

Both areas are still NE of Phoenix on Hwy 87 but are south the the (current) burn area with Sunflower. Sunflower is a very scenic trail with some mild challenges along with a few optional harder challenges. It is the same trail that the dealers used a few years ago for Hummer happenings. Rock rails and UCP are not required but are always recommended. Modest pinstriping is likely.

The Rolls is optional is basically a 20,000 acre playground. Lots of hills to climb and a couple of beaches for parking.

When: Saturday June 9
Where: at Hwy 87 and Ft. McDowell Road Chevron, 9 am :link:

Bring lunch, beverages, your recovery gear, spare parts, etc. Newbies are welcome but please have at least good tires and the basic protection for your truck.

Argh! Found out that most of the Rolls area is closed off, including the playground the big hill by the first cove. Cove access may have been eliminated as well. Too much irresponsible use including trash, drunk people and off trail driving.

After much discussion I think we need to stick with Sycamore Creek unless someone finds a better trail further south, like around Superior, AZ. Sycamore is about 3 hours from Tucson while Pyeatte is four hours. Both are probably four hours on the trail so they are somewhat short. Sycamore is a great trail for us to hit as it is fun for newbies and experienced and all levels of Hummers. I think I need to pre-run Pyeatte before we do a group event.

I should be able to make it, will confirm later today.
I'm a little worried about keeping up, even on the way up. My H1 doesn't go past 60 without a lot of tire wobble. It would probably be better for me to meet you all at the turn off, I'll get a head start in the morning. Not to metion, driving to 87 and Mcdowell would be somewhat back tracking for me, as i live off shea.
Will you be turning off Cline Cabin Rd/402 to start? I'll be in the black OT H1

vdhillon, we're meeting at 87 and "Ft. McDowell Road" not McDowell. It's about a mile north of Shea, then we drive the 13 miles to FR402

Thanks for the clarification alrock. I didn't realize there was a gas station there, just assumed it was the one off the beeline and 202. I'm in. I'll meet you all at that turn off. Might lag behind a little for the 13 miles up, but i'm sure i'll catch up once on the trail. Thanks for the invite.

Don't fill up at that gas station as it tends to be twenty cents or more per gallon than other stations. Of course, now that I state this it will be competitively priced on Saturday.

Just talked to Dwaine. He's in & bringing the Scorpion.

Alrock, FYI he also painted Michael's Monster Samurai this weekend. Can't wait until that rig starts joining us on the trails!

Oh Yea......
The Scorpion will be hard pressed to keep up with the trail selected and the experienced trail leadership that Alex brings with his "extreme hard-core" off road rig.:horns:

Just talked to ces1946 and he will try to make it but isn't sure yet if he can. If he can, we will all meet at my place and caravan up to Phoenix together at around 6 AM.

That's a great photo. One of these days I'll have to point the '97 towards AZ and go run a trail or two

Mikkel the 97 has run AZ trails before...that is why you are short about 3 SF of paint on the passenger side. ( all in 1/32" by 8' strips ) :)
