Cummins Repower 2.8 diesel

So Cummins is suppose to be releasing their 2.8l TB this year as a crate engine. It looks like it's suppose to come from the foton plant in China. However this isn't that new of an engine, you can order them through China from sites like Alibaba. My question is has anyone on the forum ever done a swap with one (2.8 or 3.8)? If so what do the plants offer for accessories to swap over. Apparently some jeep store sells jeep nv3500 kits for the 3.8l variant pushing nearly 600tq. Even if you haven't done a swap go ahead and comment since there isn't a ton of talk on here about the ISF2.8 Cummins.

yes and no.... Cummins claims that they will be 50 state emission legal. I'm suspecting that's where they're having trouble - especially after those lying Krauts and the VW diesel. Remind me again why we didn't just nuke the Germans (mostly kidding.... mostly)

Haha for a while I was looking into beefing up a vw diesel, but I didnt care for the high rev power band in our trucks. Also I would have zero luck getting a means to bolt it up to a gm tranny. Maybe if Cummins can't hold up their part we may see a market for Foton Cummins in our vehicles. Now we just need to fund a few machinist/program savvy members and come up with adapters and stand alone controllers haha. I'm sure Foton may be willing to help or some other Chinese factory.

GM put the Isuzu 4BD2T in the Colorado platform, occasionally I even seen them for sale here in the US (there's actually an importer in Texas who brings them in).... were it me, and smog weren't an issue, that'd be the route I'd travel because it's a lot easier to do that kind of swap.

I looked into the 2.8 before and Cummins is still having issues with quality and getting them to the US. I also looked into the Banks 3.0 but at $25K plus with absolutely no warranty forget that. They are only looking to sell this engine and trans setup to OEM's that will then take on the warranty responsibility. From what I know of there are only 3 diesel engine swaps in an H3? A full size Duramax done as a show vehicle from Bully Dog in US, a 4BT swap in US and a 5.9 in Mexico. How well they operate and function daily without issue is up to them but so far it is far easier to just do a gas engine imo.

The diesel in the Colorado's was the Isuzu 4JJ1 not the 4BD2.

Rjw you have hit on all the issues that would come into play for a swap. Trans adapters, accessory drives and equipment, all those issues have to be tackled and each chassis (eg jeep, hummer, ford) all will be different in the final integration.

The main issue is see with the ISF is not much tuning support. What you get is what you get. 160 HP / 267 tq. Decent but not staggering enough to entice many, other than the gas mileage potential.

Some discussion in places like 4btswaps.com for further research.

The power the 2.8 offers stock is not enticing, but it's a Cummins and I would hope the power potential is much greater than any of our I5's. Of course I've never dealt with the Isf up close and don't really know, I just figured it was about time someone started talking about it on this forum in particular.
