H3X chrome wheels...is the chrome part of the wheel or a removable plate?

My new H3T comes with chrome wheels and I would like to go all black instead. I am trying to determine if I need to buy new wheels or if I can remove the chrome in one piece to paint what's underneath. Is the chrome actually bonded to the wheel itself or is it a removable piece that exposes the bare wheel behind it? Thanks!

Edit: Whoops, didn't mean to add the X in the title.

Yeah, by the time you pay to strip them and maybe powdercoat them, you can afford new wheels.

Emet, search "plastidip" on the forum and check that option out.

Thanks, I'm actually trying to avoid modifying the stock wheels so I can return everything to stock later. But definitely planning to plastidip the phone-dial 16's :)

Then Plasti-Dip is exactly what you want. You spray it on and when you're done, it just peels right off.
