H3T PassLock 10 min lockout

I'm having the 10 min restart issue; I think the cold weather brought it on and/ or aggravated it. I looked in the Tech Library and found the fix. Does anyone have the part number handy for the switch that connects behind the lock cylinder? This is one item I have to take care of ASAP.

It is possible to remove the switch portion from the aluminum body so that you don't have to swap the whole thing out.

I had this problem My fix has been Keep turning the key until it starts and i have not had that problem its FREE try it out. Dont just twist and release keep turning until it starts.

Pcm for less a tune with fix it and override the passlock for $200

Same here. I need to do the real fix, but I’ve just trained myself to hold the key in the start position until I’m sure it cranked.

decided to go to the dealer and bought the switch. They had one on the shelf so I hope this doesn't turn in to a project.

That didn't work for me. I just spent my time waiting while listening to my radio for ten minutes. After a coffee stop yesterday it did it again so I
decided to go to the dealer and bought the switch. They had one on the shelf so I hope this doesn't turn in to a project.

It's not a difficult repair at all. Just remember that you need to do the relearn procedure after installing the new switch.

Maybe I'm missing something with the relearn procedure. I replaced the switch and now I have no headlights unless in the manual pos. and a nostart, and I mean really nostart now. The switch was relatively easy to replace. I was surprised that mostly everything snapped together.

[FONT=&quot]If the car does not start after installing the PCM, perform the security relearn procedure:[/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]After installing the PCM, most of the time you will need to perform a Security Relearn Procedure. This can be done at your home and requires no tools. If your vehicle starts after installing the PCM, you do NOT need to do it.[/FONT]

1. Attempt to start the truck by turning the key to the Start/Run position. Try to crank the vehicle.
2. Observe that the vehicle fails to start and the security light is illuminated.
3. Release key to the ON/RUN position (not the ACC position or OFF)
4. Allow the vehicle to sit with key in the ON/RUN position for no less than 11 minutes. Security light will turn off after this.
5. When the light goes off, turn key to OFF position and allow the vehicle to remain in the OFF position for no less than 30 seconds.
6. Repeat #1-#5 for four cycles or until vehicle starts.

[FONT=&quot]NOTE: Since this is a fairly long procedure (35 minutes) I would limit all electrical sources, such as shutting off headlights and AC fans to prevent discharge of battery. It is safe to wait longer than the allotted times above, but it is not safe to wait less.[/FONT]

I think tomorrow I will be reinstalling the old switch. The new switch is a GM part made in South Korea. It seemed too easy and it did not go well.

I have never had to do a relearn when swapping the ignition switch, it fires right up. This is the one I use on every H3 brought to me with the issue. Swap out the back half in ten minutes and your done.

All I can say is, "Har-umph", to be nice about it. I tried to do a relearn this am and ten minutes later I noticed the battery was totally down at 5.5 VDC. I put it on my charger for an hour while I met with a realtor. The battery was back up to 12.35 VDC. After the meeting was over I reinstalled the old switch. Before I put all the covers and panels together I did one relearn; the truck started. I don't see anyplace where I made a mistake. I did have some small rodent tracks in my engine compartment this morning but no damage I could detect. I'm going to leave it alone for a while and see if the PassLock problem continues in the future.

Good luck! My Passlock originally failed every few days, then it went a year without failing before it failed one last time. I already had the switch and swapped it out that day. The H3 did not start until I did the relearn.

Mice and squirrels love the taste of GM’s wire insulation. It’s been a big problem for many years, and it seems like they could somehow make the plastic insulation taste offensive to rodents (Mary Barra...are you out there?)
Anyway...check underneath the main fuse box. Several times I have pulled nests out from under H3 fuse boxes...usually chewed on and corroded from piss.

I hope the little critters didn't stay long enough for that kind of damage. My BIL has an F250 and while he lived in Santa Ana some rodents chewed up his engine wiring and learned that the wire insulation had some kind of soy derivative as part of the plastic insulation. Seems to make sense to me. Many years ago my Mom took a trip to visit friends up in Miranda which is in Calif. redwood country. Some kind of critter like a marmot or squirrel chewed the heck out of her silicon booted spark plug wires in her '87 Firebird. That was one car project I did for family.
I will definitely take a closer look at my main fuse box.

It's been three weeks since my last post on this subject. When I reinstalled my original ignition switch I had previously sprayed it with electronic cleaner and it seeped into the inner workings. Maybe that made a difference since my truck has been behaving very well since that time.

NO I meant after you get it reset. Now keep twisting the key until it starts every time and you wont get the lock out.

My 07 H3 does the 10 minute lockout once a month or so. I purchased a Newrockies module to wire into the BCM about 2 years ago but have been lazy about installing it. Is the ignition switch a better solution?

The ignition switch repair is easy and works. I'm not a fan of many of the third party electronics that piggy back on our systems. Buy the part, come to Glendale and we'll help you swap it in Reloader's driveway.
