Power steering

I have problems with the power steering only when parking or off-road. I have checked the fluid and its fine, I also haven't noticed any leaks. I started to notice this after my fun day of driving through a lot of snow, so maybe they're connected some how? I also just posted a thread on my front end creaking pretty loud, but that began nearly a year prior to this happening. Thanks guys!

Power steering pump. Another factory replacement will band aid it for a couple more years. One of the HUMMER guys somewhere posted up replacing the pump with a unit from PSC, they seem to have different options you can do with your pump and steering setup.
I had the dealer replace mine under warranty and have been holding my breath for three years. I put 37's under it a couple months ago, probably going to end up replacing again soon. If the money is there when it goes again, I'll do the PSC upgrade.

The steering on the H2 has always been a weak point, from the tie rods down to the centerline and up to the pitman/idler arms. The factory components allow a lot of movement, the centerline will even twist or rotate slightly under stress. I would first check all the usual components, i.e. pitman/idler arms, tie rods for any play and replace any worn components. Also check your power steering fluid, it can break down and foam up when hot. Using a good power steering like redline, or similar will not breakdown or foam up under high heat conditions. There are also several options for upgraded parts, check the Dmaxstore for some good steering upgrades if you want to upgrade any of the components. I have nearly 180,000 miles and am stilling using the factory power steering and steering gear, but upgraded the following: pitman/idler arms with added cognate support kit, Kryptonite centerlink, Kryponite tie rods, Idler support bracket and frame gusset. I am still undecided if the cognito steering support kit actually is worth it or not. It will bend under stress, but it still helps keep some of that stress of the idler and pitman arms.

the steering takes the force of the Gods to be moved, if i'm trying to park i have to bring out my inner superman to turn it. however, if i give it some gas, then the steering will become a little bit easier. this only happens when im at a very slow speed, as in 1-3mph

PS pump.

I had mine replaced under warranty about a month after I bought it in December. It had similar issues to yours from the day I bought it, but as it's a 3rd party extended warranty it's much easier to wait a month so they don't try to deny it. It's much better now, but I still have momentary loss of power steering when trying to turn tight corners at or just above idle. I'm completely stock for now, but when these tires wear out I'll move up to 37s. I'll probably upgrade some of the weaker steering parts, possibly even the pump, when I do that.

I've been surprised at my dealer repaired or replaced pump. After over 3 years it's holding up, and moreso, holding up with the 37's. The only thing I can think is the service tech did that springy stretchy thing to my pump to increase pressure; they had to have employed some trick to beef up the factory unit.
