I am in the middle of swapping T cases and the rebuilt one I had stored was rebuilt with a rear seal with no boot but a spring retainer. The old case has the boot but does not have a spring in the rubber seal. Who has used either and which one is better?

Got the new seal yesterday, bought the rubber bot style. The spring is on the INSIDE of the boot, I didn't think to look at the old seal good enough but it is there. New seal installed and will install TC tomorrow.

Did you replace the output bushing?

If so, the DS should be relatively 'tight' and a flat seal will be ok. But if you off-road a bunch or drive through sand where the DS will get dirty/dusty, the boot style keeps the joint cleaner and the seal longer lasting (that's the idea anyway). I've used flat seals on older square bodies and they lasted decent enough.
