Trick to remove fuel lines from sending unit?

I have to replace my fuel sending unit due to corrosion. I have the tank dropped, but I cannot remove the fuel lines from the sending unit for the life of me. I have soaked them in penetrating oil to try and free up any rust / corrosion holding them on.

Is there a trick to releasing the send / return line from the sending unit?

Which part? Are you replacing the whole basket assembly? Are you trying to undo that fuel line fitting on the top to separate the tubing from the basket?

I need to remove the sending line (the one next to the white plug); however, mine is a "quick connect" - looks different from what you have.

I also need to remove the broken piece from the return line (the larger one on the top) - the return line snapped right off and the "nipple" piece is stuck in the connector.

If its the same type of quick connect that is on the other end where the fuel line connects to the engine, I'm stumped too. That is the only connector that I did not disconnect the proper way when I pulled my engine. Couldn't get it to separate. I ended up cutting the fuel line. Maybe someone else here knows the trick to the connector.

Do you have a pic of the broken nipple? Going from memory here but there is no return line. One is a vent line and the other is a vapor line to the EVAP system. I need to dig through my pics to remember what was what.

To be more specific I have attached a part diagram with the two connections circled.

The upper connection is the sending line which is still attached to the sending unit. The lower connection is the return line which has snapped off - the piece of the sending unit which this line attaches to is stuck inside the line.

Neither line is budging on the corroded sending unit connections.

There is a tool to release connection, orileys or autozone has them i think. It clips on metal line and u push it into connection, that unlocks hooks inside.

Even the ones in the diagram I have circled? I used that tool on the other connections (which look different) and they let go without issue.

The ones I have circled appear to have "c-clips" that look like you need to press down on - but they will not budge.

Turns out a knife works. Cut the old lines off and replaced with new fittings / lines. New sending unit is in and tank is back in truck - problem solved.

I'll have to get a pic of my old sending unit - the top looks like swiss cheese from all the corrosion; daylight shines right through it. No wonder I had EVAP issues.
