Will it leak without it?

Hey guys, was putting on a new water pump and over torqued the first nut and broke it off. I don't think I'll be able to extract it on my own as my methods haven't worked so far. Its sitting a few threads inside the timing case so it's a challenge to get to. Does anyone have an easier way that doesnt invole drilling or blow torching the case? Thanks for the help.

Ouch, don't risk running it. Overheating the engine will be far more money than paying someone to extract the broken bolt.

Bolts to hold parts together are NOT optional. Look into the proper size extractor and how to use it. If you fell like you can, them start down that path. If it is over your skill base, then get help or pay someone that has the skill set.

It’ll Probbaly hold until the system gets up to pressure. Drilling and extracting is easy, the hardest part is telling yourself your center and patient.

Here's a trick which works if you can get access to it: Get a jam-nut from the hardware store which is like 3/8" or 7/16"..something that is a tad larger than your stud. Jam nuts are low profile. Set or tape the jam nut over the broken bolt. Take your wire-feed welder and weld the stud inside the nut...basically you're welding the stud to the nut.

If you do it 'right' and start in the center of the broken stud and weld in a continuous circle right out to the jam nut, you're basically welding the nut to the broken stud. the heat also helps loosen the stud. Wait 15-25 seconds for the weld to set up & heat to dissapate just a little. Then put a socket on the nut and gently remove the stud. I've removed a lot this way. A regular nut is usually too deep to weld that far into, that's why I suggested a jam nut.

Quick update: Ended up extracting it out, so glad this is over, learned my lesson about torque specs.
This is the kit I used if anyone else runs into a similar problem, worked out great!
