TPMS not compatible?

I have a problem with the tpms not accepting the new reprogramming from the dealer. I bought new (used) 16" H3 wheels to replace my 18's. The new ones came with the TPMS installed. I had the new tires mounted and then I got the TPMS error code. Took it by the GM dealer they attempted to reprogram the TPMS system. Picked it up with no error code drove it for a few miles now I get the Low Tire code. All pressures are 32psi. Should they be higher psi? Door sticker says 30psi. So Im assuming the sensors are set for that pressure. GM checked all sensors and said they are working, just still have the low tire code. I guess they have increased the tire pressure in each tire, but does the tire have to be spinning in order to get a good reading? They are saying the TPMS may not be compatible because of 08 vs what ever yr these wheels are. They want to put my old wheels back on and if it goes away they will swap all the TPMS out. Seem a bit much. Any body have this problem? I have searched and I may go out and try the horn honk method.

Every time that I have my tires rotated and balanced by the tire place, I always end up with the same problem. I just reset them myself with the horn honk method. Plus I have Duratracs and non stock rims and run my pressure at 40psi. Once I set it, I am good till the next time I have them rotated. Oh, and I have the 08 as well.

I was just in Howell,MI I work for a Helicopter company that HQ is on the Livingston County Airport. I get up there from time to time.

Horn honk method?

Refer to owners manual. Turn ignition on, set parking brake, turn headlight to the left three times within 5 seconds I think. Starting with the drivers side tire, slowly let air out for about 10 seconds till the horn beeps, then move to passengers side front, then to rear pass, finally end at drivers rear. Once you do that go release parking brake, turn ignition off, then start and see if tpm message is gone. If so air up to your preferred pressure, if not do procedure over. That is not word for word, but thats what I do everytime and it gets er done...

Doing the relean procedure will not likely get rid of your low tire indicator. You can try it, it's free and can't hurt. You have an H3X which your door sticker says to inflate to 30 lbs. FYI the H3's that came with 265's say to inflate to 32 lbs. and the ones that came with 285's says to inflate to 35 lbs. What size tires did you put on your 16" wheels? I would guess that if the sensors were incompatable, you would still be getting the TPMS error. The sensors are read by the BCM which on the X is set up for 30 lbs. which would NOT explain why you are 2 lbs. over and getting a low tire indicator unless the dealer changed the range to match the tire size. My H3 with 285's will set off the low tire indicator at 32 psi. I would increase the pressure by 2 lbs. and go for a short drive. It takes a mile or so for the BCM to read the settings. Lots of folks with 285's run up to 40 lbs. I would also double check my pressure with a different gauge. These things can be off by quite a bit. Good luck.

On my 08 I have to run them at least at 38 or the light comes on. If it does come on, and I fill the tires, it won't go off for a while. I have to drive for some time for it to shut off. I did have to relearn a couple of times till the BCM was happy. I have no idea why, but eventually it accepted it.

When the message comes on, remember to read exactly what it says. I'm not 100% sure but I think it puts a different message whether it's a low tire or a faulty sensor/not receiving signal. I could be wrong.

OK reset the TPMS by the book, seemed to chk out. But still have the low tire light even after driving for 20 min. Left rear tire seems to take air a little differently than the others. The other three you can definitely hear the air going into the tire, the L/R seems to take a burst of air (like the rest) then sort of die off, not stop completely but slows down. Guess you have to be here to get what I'm saying. Not sure how the TPMS works inside the wheel but I wonder if the L/R is where I should start first? Or maybe I should get used to the pretty orange light.

It sounds like there might be something wrong with the left rear. I would try replacing it and see if that fixes your problem.

I have the 08 and the door sticker says 30psi. I am not going to run my tires at 30 and eat them up. Mine is a 80psi max cold. I run it at 42 on the front, and 40 on the rear. They say 35 on the spare. Once I reset mine it stays off after I air up..... Oh yeah, I am only running 265 also.:)

Try swapping out the L/R with the spare and see if it turns the light off. Then you'll know which sensor you need to fix. You should also check the valve core in the L/R. It may be that it was screwed on wrong.

First make sure your spare has a sensor. If it does the valve stem will be metallic, if not it will be rubber. They stopped putting sensors in the spare on the mid-07 models. Good luck.
