We think the ring/rack (whatever) and pinion gave, I was going up a trail and I've done this trail before but there was this sheet metal like scrape and I backed off and all this fluid started leaking out. It's at the Marble Falls dealer right now. And I've been told that Preferred Chassis has a fix for this

That sucks.... There's a few options out there for rack mounts these days. Any one you choose should be a great upgrade over the stock POS mount.

Ring and pinion...do you have the Ci front diff with locker?

If the bushing failed that could cause failure in the front diff.

There seems to be some confusion on if alphas have CI diffs or not. According to some there is no CI diff without the locker. If he doesn't have the CI diff I'd be careful of wheel spin even with it keep it to a minimum. I have taken my 3 plenty of places, probably where most think a 3 can't go but keeping wheel spin to a minimum once you get that going you can kiss your diff goodbye. Bad diff bushings increase the problem. Being a 3 piece design with bad bushings on each or one side everything can flex and deflect itself to destruction. Even with all going well at the end of the day the AAM-7 is still at odds end with lack of R&P size.

I've heard all Alphas and 08 plus have the CI. That is a misconception. Only the ones with a locker have the CI diff. Learned that the hard way ordering a non locker case. It was aluminum.

The wheels were on the ground and the it was normal climbing the only reason the wheels would be be spinning is lack of traction and the conditions were wet and slippery but... I don't know anything yet I'll probably hear from the dealer tomorrow

No idea yet hopefully this week but it's probably gonna be close because of the holiday if not this week then for sure next

Well, hopefully warranty is going to cover it all. I think there is a decent chance they might be able to get it done quick if they have the parts in stock and aren't too backed up with other trucks.

Dealer just called and told me they were going to look at it today they'll get back to me in a couple hours to let me know what damaged. I'll keep everyone updated

I'm a little confused here... I thought it sounded like the steering rack failed too but then all this talk about the front diff... Either way, it sounds like you're gonna get it all fixed up. Hopefully with not too much headache. If it is indeed the steering rack, it is another testament to the need for an aftermarket rack mount.

thats why I was confused...Not sure which one gave. the ring and pinion diff or rack and pinion.

from my experiences with breaking, and from what I saw happen with Chris' hummer, I believe it o be the steering rack

It is hard to say I did not see it break and without parts there was no reason to crawl in the mud to see. Also if it was the front diff there probably would have been noise when trying to move the truck.

Well the dealer said they moved it from outside to inside a little progress I guess they will actually look at it tomorrow. And the only noise that came from it was a scrapping sound not a snap or anything
